5 Holiday Events You Don’t Want to Miss This Year

The holidays are upon us and with the changing of the weather come the joys of the winter season!  Here at Speed Raceway, we wanted to make sure that you are making the most of this magical time of year by giving you a few fun ideas to get you out of the house, enjoying the season and taking in some culture!

Grand Illumination (Nov. 29th- Downtown Denver)

Be sure to take the time to make your way downtown on the 29th to catch the grand illumination of some of the city’s most iconic areas including the city and county building, Larimer Square, the Denver Pavilions, Union Station, Skyline Park and the 16th Street Mall and D&F Tower.  No matter where you are downtown, you’re sure to be in for quite a beautiful show!

Southwest Rink at Skyline Park (Nov. 30th-Feb. 17th- Downtown, Arapahoe & 16th St.)

New York City has skating at the Rockefeller Center, Denver has the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park.  The rink is open throughout the winter season and is free to the public, offering skate rentals at a reasonable price for those who don’t bring their own.  With the 16th Street Mall right next door and smack dab in the middle of downtown, you can’t find a prettier and more entertaining backdrop to this seasonal go-to.

Parade of Lights (December 6th & 7th- Downtown)

Nothing shouts “Holiday Season” like the 9NEWS Parade of Lights streaming through the streets of Downtown Denver.  Local high school bands, amazing floats and of course an appearance from Mr. Claus himself if you’re up for that sort of thing.  Just remember to get to your spot early and bundle up, early December nights get mighty cold in Denver!

Zoo Lights (December 6th-January 5th- Denver Zoo)

The zoo is always an enchanting place to be during the day, and by night it’s even more so as brilliant lights and displays cover almost every inch of the location.  It’s a great date idea but also perfect for the kids.

4th Annual 1940’s White Christmas Ball (Dec. 7th- Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum)

This fun and nostalgic party asks for you to dress up in 1940’s attire and relive the glory days as your spend the night inside one of the coolest museums in town.  There is a $40 ticket price, but is well worth it from what we hear.

Denver is full of great things to do during this wonderful season.  Don’t just lock yourself in your warm and cozy house the whole time, but instead get out and see what this amazing city has to offer!
