My First Trip to Speed Raceway!

This last week, I got my first chance to race at Speed Raceway. My colleagues and I had been planning a visit for a long time, and with the Fourth of July weekend approaching, we decided there was no better way to kick off the festivities than with some awesome go kart racing! If there's anything I love to celebrate in America, it's the need for speed. I had visited the Speed Raceway track before, but never had the chance to race! So I was very excited to see what all the hype was about.

I've enjoyed gokart racing before, growing up going to family fun centers with loud, smelly, hot go karts sitting out in the sun all day. You'd stand in line for a hour, finally get to the front of the line, and then watch all your friends make the cut for a race and you get left behind. Once you raced, you'd get a bad kart and slowly work your way around the track that is stuck between the putt-putt course and the highway. Sure, it could be fun, but between the long wait, not getting to always race with your friends, and the sketchy, noisy, karts, it left a lot to be desired. I always thought there had to be a better way to go kart.

Turns out, Speed Raceway is everything I've been looking for in a go kart race. You don't realize how enjoyable indoor go kart racing can be until you try it. With a huge facility completely enclosing the track, you can enjoy the racing day or night, rain or shine. We signed up as a group, and got four full races together, with 12 laps in each race. Our placement was shown on a giant screen on the wall during the race, helping me know where I was in comparison to my friends. Between races, we all talked smack and discussed strategy, pointing out places on the course that gave us trouble. The walls of Speed Raceway are lined with racing video games, so if your need for speed isn't fulfilled by the racing itself, then you've got plenty of other options.

My biggest surprise at Speed Raceway were the karts themselves. As we all launched out, our karts were going a decent speed already, but once all the racers were on the track, the electric karts got turned up to full strength and I was amazed at how fast they went. Maybe you think electric go karts are too "green" to go fast, but these are the fastest karts I've ever driven. There were peel-outs, crashes, wall scrapes, and we all had a great time. It's awesome to drive go karts without sitting in the hot sun smelling a run-down, gas-powered, kart.

I can't wait to visit Speed Raceway again. My performance left something to be desired; I think I was too blown away by how fast the karts were! If you haven't been go kart racing before, let Speed Raceway be your first time. If you've been racing before, and dealt with the outdoor, gas-powered karts that haven't been updated since the 90s, then let me encourage you to give these electric go karts a chance and feel the difference for yourself. Speed Raceway is a great place for corporate teambuilding events; I can vouch firsthand at the comradery with my coworkers as we talked about the races, our finishes, and when we could come back. Obviously go kart racing is a great place for a birthday party, so no matter if you're turning 7 or 70, there's a great time to be had at Speed Raceway. Contact them today to book your next event!
