Four Must Do’s When Planning Your Son’s Birthday Party

We all hold on to some trauma from when we were little. Maybe you took a really bad fall off a bike, and you were never able to feel quite comfortable again. Perhaps you were swimming in the ocean and got caught in a rip tide that pulled you very far out. Maybe you were teased when you had to give a class presentation and you started crying in front of everyone. (I will never forgive you for that, Brian Abney.) It doesn’t matter what the traumatic experience was because they all create painful memories that can be hard to move past.

For me, my most terribly memorable experience was my ten year old birthday party. I was in the 5th grade, and my mom, like she always had up until that point, planned out my entire birthday party. Unfortunately, she greatly underestimated the amount of growth between a third grader and a fifth grader when she decided to reuse a previous party theme, Power Rangers. Little did she realize that we elementary school students were well past that and on to big-kid animation shows like South Park. I would be ridiculed relentlessly for this decision for many years to come. If only my mother had known what I know now. If only she had been able to read this article. She would have been able to follow these four easy steps to throwing a really cool birthday party.

Step 1 – Make The Activity Exciting

If birthdays serve one purpose, it is to enable us to do things we wouldn’t normally get to do. When I was very young, it was to pretend to be a Power Ranger. As I grew older, I became more interested in more daring pursuits. No longer was I entranced by make-believe. I needed to feel a rush of excitement. I wanted to feel wind in my face. I wanted to do something daring! I wanted a go kart racing party, and not the slow and raggedy little things at the family fun centers. I wanted the real deal, the big-kid go karts, the ones that go fast!

Now, I wish I could say that a couple years later my interests shifted and I moved on to other interests, and while they did, the desire to cruise in high-quality go karts remained. Luckily, these days I am old enough to plan my own birthday parties. In fact, I am almost to the age where friends are planning their children’s parties, so I plan on making sure none of them make the same decisions that my mother did by planning a boring party. Remember, if you want the party to be fun, the most important thing is that the primary activity is exciting.

Step 2 – Provide a Fun Atmosphere

As any of you who have spent much time with men know, we get easily bored. I wish I could say it only pertained to us as children, but that would be a bold face lie. If anything, we become more set in our ways. With the exceptions of drinking, eating, and playing video games, we are sure to eventually get bored of any activity, not matter how exciting. In other words Moms, unfortunately it is no longer enough to simply take us go kart racing in Colorado. There needs to be some other activities in between to keep us distracted. You could provide other small board games or card games. Perhaps you can organize a game of hide and go seek for all of the current non-racers. If you want to make it easy on yourself, simply find a place like Speed Raceway Denver where they provide tons other games in their awesome arcade. That way, all you have to do is distribute the quarters in order to give you a moments rest.

Step 3 – Good Food Makes or Breaks a Party

First, I want to apologize to my mom because it may seem like I am jumping all over you about this years-old birthday party fiasco. Don’t worry Mom! All of that is in the past. Who can even remember that discount pizza you bought so many years ago? (Actually I can, and so will your son, so please don’t make the same mistake my mom did.) Even children can tell the difference between good and bad food. So if you are going to pick up something easy, like pizza, make sure it’s from the good pizza place in town. In the mind and heart of a child, there is a huge difference! The quality and presentation of your food is very important, so make sure you either make something quite delicious at home, or you can have food catered from the place of your choosing. However you choose to proceed, Speed Raceway will accommodate you.

Step 4 – Make it Affordable.

Finally, it is quite obvious that a great party is easy to throw when you have unlimited funds, but if you are like me or like my mother many years ago, that simply isn’t an option. Maybe you have a bunch of kids and are always throwing parties. Maybe you simply have too many other expenses. Either way, you need to find a way to make this party affordable. Speed Raceway is a great option that offers incredible group discounts for go kart racing in Denver. After that, it is just up to you to figure out how many people are going to join and how many race they will want to do.

Parents, take it from me: your son wants to have his next birthday party indoor go kart racing. There simply isn’t a more fun and exciting activity that is both affordable and available no matter the weather outside. It may have seemed like a lot of work at first, but after you experience the thrill of not having to clean up your house after a bunch of sugar-crazed little monsters, I am certain it will become a birthday mainstay in your family.
